The mission of A TIT 4 TAT is to:
Our logo is the Ghanaian Adinkra symbol, which means Transformation. I had this tattooed on my shoulder after I had finished chemotherapy. It also symbolised my aim to not just survive, but to thrive!!

Background
I am a 58-year-old teacher, community leader, and PhD student with three adult sons. In August 2014, shortly after completing my teacher training, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I underwent a right mastectomy and axillary node clearance, followed by chemotherapy and Herceptin treatment. Due to complications after surgery, I did not have breast reconstruction until August 2022, when I opted for a PAP reconstruction. This procedure involved using skin and tissue from my lower body to create a new breast.
Unfortunately, the results were disappointing. The reconstruction left me with significant scarring, and the skin used in the transfer was mismatched in color. I felt that my skin tone and the potential outcomes had not been properly considered in the surgical process.
A TIT 4 TAT Mastectomy Body Art Transformations.
After the surgery, I wanted to cover the scars with a tattoo but didn’t know where to start. I was unsure about the implications of getting a tattoo on my surgery site, and I had no idea who would be the right artist for this delicate work. I realized that many others might be facing similar challenges and that there was a need for information and support specifically tailored to people with different skin tones.
This led me to the idea of creating A TIT 4 TAT Mastectomy Body Art Transformations—a resource for people of all skin shades who are seeking to reclaim their bodies through post-mastectomy tattoos.

Started my mastectomy tattoo journey today! I contacted Nicole at Luna Phase Tattoo Studio via the Mastectomy Tattooing Alliance page. I made contact with Nicole and was sent an online booking link. I arrived today after being given helpful directions from Nicole.
The consultation was very helpful and informative. Nicole explained the process and answered all my questions. She carefully logged all the important details of my cancer and reconstruction journey. She had the expertise, having tattooed cancer survivors for many years, and understood how disappointed I was with my reconstruction. After looking at my breast area, we discussed potential designs and colour. Nicole said that she would photoshop a design onto my image so that I could see what it would look like.
I was so pleased to discover that the Mastectomy Tattooing Alliance charity offers a full bursary for the tattoo. I was so touched by this that tears fell!! 😢
So, I will be having my tattoo done soon, and I will post that journey here. I am beyond grateful!🙏🏽
